2012 Home Product Picks from IBS 2012

I picked a few of my favorite Home Products that I think will have a good place in today’s housing needs.  These are the products that grabbed my interest from Builder Online’s article from the International Builders Show. There are many more great products, I just selected a few that caught my attention.

This USB Outlet caught my attention because I am always trying to charge mobile devices and would love to have these everywhere!

FastMac claims this is Energy Efficient which is nice, but not the reason I would buy this..

Requires 14gauge wiring or larger, 16 cubic inch single gang box or larger.  This should retrofit into most homes…

6″ Traverse LED Downlight – Retrofit or Ceiling Mount

Traverse LED Downlight delivers the performance of incandescent downlights while reducing energy and operating cost by 80% and requiring virtually no maintenance. Ideal for general lighting in residential and commercial applications, the damp rated Traverse can be used for shower applications as well. The Traverse LED downlight is also an excellent alternative to costly fire rated recessed housings.

My interest in this product is it’s potential to provide the recessed light effect without breaching the vapor barrier of ceiling.  I am not 100% sure this will achieve what I think it will, but it is on my list to do more investigating on this lighting alternative.  Their website claims it installs easy to: retro-fits 5″ & 6″ housings or flush mount to a 4″ junction box

Pinkwood Engineered Wood Products

PinkWood uses a revolutionary, factory applied coating process, designed specifically to provide a visible and effective barrier against fire, mold, fungus and rot. These are not the things you think about when you are building your dream home.

All PinkWood building products are coated with PinkShield™, a non-toxic, environmentally friendly technology. PinkShield™ coated products resist the growth of mold and rot fungus while providing added fire protection to your home through the use of integrated fire retardants.

This grabbed my attention for its mold, fungus, rot and fire barrier.  If this product lives up to its claims and is relatively price effective – then this will be a great choice for people to use this product in their new homes.

This is something to keep our eyes on…

  1. Jen says:

I love that U Socket. I just sent an email to my electrician to see if he could put a couple of those in my home. What a great idea!

  2. Yes, I think the U Socket is a great idea. Price seems a little steep, but my guess is that if it becomes more popular other manufacturer’s will also start making something similar.

    Great job with the list!
