The last couple years I was in a battle with Woodpeckers that were destroying my cedar siding on my house. I have cedar shake siding and couldn’t replace the damaged cedar shakes as fast as they were pecking new holes in it. I never realized how realistically funny the old cartoons like Woody Woodpecker were…
I was getting to the point of residing my home in a metal siding when I read somewhere that a plastic owl would scare them away. So I went to the local hardware store and picked up a plastic owl.
This spring I mounted it on the peak of my roof, making it look realistic that an owl was perched there. I have not seen the woodpeckers yet this year.
I believe it worked. The MN DNR has some good information on controlling Woodpeckers as well.
You can pick up these Owl Decoys at hardware stores or Sporting Good stores. Here is one at Mills Fleet Farm for about $13.00
